Challenging Champs

The Challenging Champs 4-H club met on August 1, 2021 at 1:23 pm. Nine members and five adult/leaders
were present. Calvin Diekhans led the American pledge and Annie Diekhans led the 4-H pledge. Jersey
Somerfeld and Sammy Martinez led roll call asking members to name their favorite summer activity. Zoe
moved to approve the minutes and Annie seconded the motion. The minutes were approved. No Treasurer
was present, so no treasurer’s report was presented. Calvin reported on what he submitted to fair, as well as
Ben, Annie, and Jersey. President Jersey Somerfeld reported on 4-H Congress and 4-H camp. Kelsy gave a
report on the community garden.
For new business Kelsy asked our club about moving highway cleanup to SR 431 instead of I-15. Sammy
Martinez motioned to move the highway cleaning and Caleb seconded. Motion passed and Kelsy said she
will look into getting it changed. Our club needs to bill Power Schools for the gym cleaning done after games.
Our next meeting will be October 3, 2021. Annie motioned to adjourn the meeting with a second from Caleb.
Meeting was adjourned at 1:59 pm.
For the activity, the club rented the Dutton Pool for members to swim.

As always, clubs may exchange duties with another club. Both clubs must agree with the exchange.
If clubs decide to exchange duties, please inform the Extension Office. If an assigned duty does not occur,
as has happened with COVID, a club may be assigned another duty by the Extension Office.

Community Service Opportunity

We have a great community service opportunity for a 4-H club! The leadership team at 4-H
Congress put together healthcare "thank you" kits to be given to each attending county. The
Extension Office then put together a list of healthcare providers in our county along with thank you
cards. There is also a sample "thank you" letter to write and let our healthcare providers know
how much we appreciate them. This service project could easily be done at a club meeting and
would especially relevant now that COVID cases are again increasing in our county. If your club is
interested in participating, please let the Extension Office know. Thank you!
