Carcass Event

Congratulations to the carcass award winners who were announced at the carcass award event Tuesday, August 10, at the Stage Stop Inn.The grand in beef carcass was awarded to Aundra Passmore, reservewent to Angus Lidstrom and third place was Cyler Yeager.In lamb carcass, the grand carcass belonged to Jacob Major's lamb with Bo Lytle getting reserve and Andrew Major claiming third.Swine carcass grandwent to Jeremiah Rammell while reserve carcass was awarded to Grace Toeckes and Charlie Long tookthird.The goat carcass grand went to Kyona Yeager with Addie Pearson receiving reserve.

Re-enrollment for 4-H will begin October 1on ZSuite.Club leader(s) will have Clover Selection project guides for members to get more information on projects. The deadline for re-enrollment is December 1.

When 4-H youth re-enroll before December 1:

  • Project books will be ordered for you by the office.
    • The first project book order will be placed in late October.
    • A second project book order will be placed in December.
  • Project books will be paid by 4-H Council.
  • You can sign up for and participate in committees.
  • You will receive information from the MSU Extension Office in Teton County.

 

IF you re-enroll after December 1 you:

  • must complete a variance request form stating why you were unable to re-enroll by December 1
  • are responsible for ordering and paying for your own project books
  • are ineligible to serve on 4-H committees
  • must pay a $25 per member late fee
  • will not receive any correspondence from MSU Extension Teton County until you are re-enrolled

Dues must be paid before members are considered active in 4-H and receive the benefits listed above.

Livestock Committee is in need of members.This committee meets 4-5 times over the year,in the evenings.If you have a child taking a market animal project, PLEASE consider joining the Livestock Committee.Committee sign-up takes place in October along with member enrollment so you have time to think about it.Karen Forseth, MSU Extension Teton County Ag Agent, would be happy to talk to you about being on the Livestock Committee.She can be reached at 466-2492 or [email protected]

Fire Up!

Rocky Mountain Top Shots will be having a pistol and rifle organizational meeting October 5 at 7 pm at the Rocky Mountain Rifle Club outside of Fairfield. Service Learning Hours

If your school has service learning requirements, please talk to local school administrators about how to record your service learning hours and let our office know. We are happy to complete paperwork, etc., but can only do so if we know your school’s requirements and you prompt us via email, text, call, to do so. Many 4-H events would qualify as service learning!

Fall Leadership Training:  Billings

The 2021 Fall Leadership Training will be all about building your 4-H NETwork! 4-H members and volunteers from across the state have the opportunity to attend activities, meet people and access resources that will help them reach their leadership goals.

Make sure October 22-24, 2021 is on your calendar!

If you have questions about this event feel free to reach out the the 2021/2022 Ambassador Officer Team or the Montana 4-H Center.

Youth will leave the weekend prepared and excited to take the knowledge and skills they have gained and apply them in their counties. It is also a great place for youth leaders exchange ideas and create a statewide network of resources. Fall Leadership Training takes place each year over MEA weekend, the third Thursday/Friday in October.This year the training will be held in Billings.

Registration cost is $175, including lodging (2 to a room), all meals on Saturday and Sunday breakfast, and program costs. Adult chaperones will have lodging options during registration.

Those participants interested in attending need to register using ZSuite.

Youth participants must be 14 on or before October 1, 2021, and volunteer chaperones must be at least 21 and a certified volunteer.

Make It With Wool

It is time to start preparing for the Make It With Wool contest to be held this fall. Get out your favorite pattern and start hunting for that perfect wool fabric. Wouldn’t it be great to make a wool outfit for the contest this fall and then already have an outfit finished for your sewing project this next 4-H year?

The fabric and/or yarn needs to a minimum of 60% wool to qualify for MIWW contest. The District 3 contest is typically held in late fall.There is a $7.00 entry fee per swatch of fabric used and wool yarn used. These funds will cover the cost of testing your fabric or yarn for content.

Categories are Preteen (12 and under); Junior (13-16); Senior (17-24); Adult (25 and older); and Made for Others. Contestant ages are determined as of January 1, 2021. First place winners in the Junior, Senior, Adult and Made for Others categories advance to the State competition which will be held during the Montana Wool Growers Convention in Billings, December 3-4, 2021.

There is also a Quilt/Applique Project/Afghan Contest this year. The fabric or yarn needs to be at least 60% wool. There is a $10 entry fee and entry forms are due in by November 1, 2021. The quilts, applique projects and afghans need to be mailed to Jean Harrison.Entry forms and brochures are available at MSU Extension Teton County, the Make It With Wool Facebook page or the Montana Woolgrower Association website.
